What was your first impression of Aurubis Beerse when you started on your first day?
I have known Aurubis Beerse since I was a little kid. My father, grandfather and uncle also worked here, so I already knew the company a bit. My father had the same function here then as I have now and that made me even more enthusiastic to start working here. -
You’ve been working at Aurubis Beerse for 11 years. What does your career path look like?
I started in February 2013 as an unloader in the Materials Handling department. Over the years, I learned to operate the wheel loader, telehandler, and crane. After working several years on shifts, I moved to a day shift role, focusing on loading, internal transport, and sample collection. I then became an assistant supervisor, and I have now progressed to the role of Shift Supervisor Materials Handling. In August, I will start my new role as Team Lead Materials.

You are currently working as Shift Supervisor Materials Handling. What exactly does this position entail?
I am responsible for correctly unloading trucks, sampling at our scrap yard, assessing packaging, ... But also internal transport so that our production departments receive their materials on time. In addition, I hold daily briefings with my colleagues of both the early and late shifts to ensure a smooth transfer of work. It is a multifaceted job where I work closely with my team to ensure the logistics processes run smoothly. -
What does the Materials Handling team look like?
Our team consists of 24 colleagues, including two shifts with alternating early and late shifts and one shift in daytime hours. As Shift Supervisor, I work the day shift and oversee those three shifts. To keep everything running smoothly, we have an organisation with a Shift Supervisor in day shift (me) and three assistant shift supervisors: one for early, one for late and one for day hours. That system provides the necessary scope for training and personal development.
-
Do you interact a lot with the other departments?
Yes, absolutely. The whole logistics process starts and ends at Materials Handling. We receive the materials and supply the various departments, such as Electrolysis, Lead-Tin, Foundry and Sampling. After the production process, the finished products come back to us again, where we load them to be shipped to our various customers worldwide. But we also regularly come into contact with the maintenance and administrative departments. For example, when parts need to be repaired or re-ordered. -
What do you like best about working at Aurubis Beerse?
The opportunities to grow and develop yourself. At Aurubis Beerse, you get the opportunity to learn new skills and grow within the company. Aurubis offers you many opportunities to go far.
