Meet Evi, operator in the Tankhouse department!

Tell me a bit more about yourself, Evi.
I'm Evi, the newest member of the Tankhouse team at Aurubis Olen since February 5th! After 19 years as a welder, I was ready for something new, a cool new challenge. When a good friend told me there was an opening in the Tankhouse team, I applied right away.

What prompted you to make the transition from 19 years as a welder to now an operator?
I was really ready for a change. Welding was quite monotonous, dirty, and heavy. Additionally, I missed the team feeling because I always worked alone. The job of an operator is much more varied now, but it can also be physically challenging. But that doesn't scare me at all. Working hard was kind of instilled in me by my parents (laughs).

You started in early February as the only woman in the Tankhouse team. How has that been for you?
At first, it was a bit of an adjustment, as with any new job. But now I feel really comfortable here. Gender doesn't play a role in our team; we're just colleagues who get along well, laugh, and joke around together. Really a great team!

What would you like to say to women who are interested in a career at Aurubis? 
Be strong and confident, and you'll do just fine! Don't let yourself be deterred by the idea of it being "a man's company"; women can hold their own here just as well. At Aurubis, everyone gets equal opportunities, regardless of gender.

What makes working at Aurubis so enjoyable?
The atmosphere and camaraderie here are really great. If you have any concerns, you can always turn to your colleagues and your supervisors. You're so appreciated and supported here at Aurubis Olen. That's something I enjoy every day!
